Continuing on our look at Tyler Durden's rules of innovation, we're now to #4:
  • It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.
Losing everything in the corporate communications world probably means your department is being downsized or (worse) your job is on its way out. It seems like every day jobs are being eliminated by some of the strongest and largest international companies. And my fear is that many of these cuts are being made in employee communications.

And when times are tough at companies, those that aren't making it or selling it are often the first to go. This is why you should feel free to take chances and do the things you feel need to be done.

Planning is great. But now it's time to act. Review your internal communications activities and evaluate what's effective and what's simply not working.

If you have a digital signage network, make sure you're using it the right way. Spend time on your content and talk to your coworkers. If you don't have one in place, now may be the time to invest. Money may be tight, but I think you'll be surprised at how cost effective digital signs can be.
