Is your static signage getting stale?

Contrary to many popular (and completed unfounded) opinions, print is not dead. A common question I get from communicators when I present is, "Will digital signage completely eliminate our printed communications?"

If a company made a concerted effort to eliminate printing, then that communication would have to be funneled into other vehicles. Therefore, print eliminated. But by its nature alone, electronic signage will not eliminate printed communications nor would I (or should you) want it to.

Printed communication though requires a lot of hand-holding and maintenance. At a previous job I had, we designed these resource centers where we could display posters, in addition to a distribution point for various newsletters and announcements. Not only were these displays a pain to manage, having to go around several times a week to update the information and remove the "for sale" signs employees posted to them, but they were also very expensive.

Printed communication works but it can be very laborious and does produce quite a bit of waste. This is where digital signage really changed employee communications. Communicators now have complete control over visual communication and can properly time messages so that they show up and drop off at the appropriate times.

No longer do you need to walk around and hang posters at the start of a campaign and then go around at the end to remove them. . . when you get around to it. And God forbid there be an update during the time. It's amazing to me that there are still communicators wasting their time with this sort of chore. Communicating isn't the waste; it's the time it takes to manage it.

Digital signage gives you the power to deliver dynamic communication to where your employees are, whether that's all in the same building or around the glob. You have complete control.

There's no need for your communication to be stale.
