There are a lot of decisions to be made when installing a digital signage network, but there is one in particular that I don't think many in corporate communications consider.
Should you positions your signage in landscape mode or portrait? Should they be horizontal or vertical? Should your employees look at them as TVs or posters?
Most default to landscape because that's the "natural" position but I'd like to see more consider placing their screens in portrait mode, much like you see in the airports. And there's a reason airports do this.
When viewers see a screen in portrait mode, they view it as a poster. . . as information. When a screen is in landscape, it's a TV. . . entertainment.
Are you installing digital signage to entertain or inform? Hopefully both. And each can be accomplished by choosing either physical orientation. I would like to see some internal communicator take on the status quo and put their network in portrait.
But that's just me. What about you?
