That classic line is taken from Glengarry Glen Ross, one of my favorite movies. In this scene Alec Baldwin's character is "berating" the sales staff about their performance, or lack thereof. I would love to provide a link to a YouTube clip but I need to keep it clean. There might be children reading this blog....right.

What in the world does this movie have to do with digital signage? Not much frankly, but you might find that you'll have to turn yourself into one heck of a salesman if you want to put in your own digital signage solution. Your own network can be quite a hefty financial investment so you'll need to convince the higher ups that it's worth the money. And given the belt tightening going on, companies are cutting back of many capital investments.

When I wan internal communications manager, I looked at the project as a per employee cost and broke it down into two categories. First, the initial hardware investment and then the ongoing costs. When I did my calculations, it came out to around $40 per employee for the digital signage hardware as a one-time cost and then a little less than $10 per year for ongoing software costs. . . PER YEAR. The ongoing costs come out to less than $1 per month. What other tool out there costs less than $1 per month per employee that allows you to communicate on a global basis?

I wanted to point this out because sometimes the initial investment can seem a bit scary to people. But when you look at how little costs are for an effective employee communications tool, it makes a compelling argument.

So when you're putting your plan together and are ready for the internal fight for your project, just remember Alec Baldwin's classic line: Coffee's for closers only!
