As LCD technology has improved, screens keep getting larger and larger -- almost to ridiculous sizes. Not that long ago, a 65" commercial-grade LCD screen was practically unheard of. Now I've heard there's an 82" commercial-grade screen coming out. How large will they get? 100"+ is on the way so who knows in a few years!
And with this increase in sizes, the impact is felt in the digital signage hardware world. The initial feeling is to always go bigger because, well, why not!
But in the corporate environment, bigger isn't always better. For you internal communications messages, you need to choose screen sizes that properly compliment the environment.
If your digital sign is going to be elevated high on a wall in a mutlistory entryway or needs to be seen from a long distance, then a 65" (or larger) makes sense. If you're putting it in a large cafeteria, you may want to choose 42" or 47" screens for your messaging. Break areas? 32s may be best. And with MediaTile, you can have a variety of sizes in play without having to redo content for each screen size.
In my experience, I've found that using 32", 42" and 47" screens work best. And with our Digital Sign in a Box, you have no additional hardware to purchase.
So is bigger really better? With ice cream, yes. With your digital signage network, maybe yes or maybe no. What do you think?
