After yesterday's tongue-in-cheek "zombie" article, I wanted to reinforce how important security is for your digital signage network. Digital Signage Blog posted a comprehensive security checklist that I'd recommend reviewing when installing your own solution.
Upon reviewing the list, I was pleased to see that MediaTile has implemented all of them that apply to our digital signage hardware and software solutions.
The one security item on the checklist that I didn't include in yesterday's post was around user names and passwords. Since Mediacast 4.0 is SaaS, users can access the portal from any compatible Internet browser. You manage your network with a user name and password that you create. As the checklist suggests, it's never wise to have a user name that's "admin" or "guest." Or a password that's "test" or "12345."
Though many lessons can be taken from the movie "Spaceballs," a key one revolves around a having a secure password.
For those who aren't familiar with the Mel Brooks classic, King Roland secured Planet Druidia's fresh air with a "secret" password. Spaceballs and President Skroob wanted to steal the fresh air with Mega Maid. The password turned out to be 12345. . . the same as President Skroob's luggage.
Classic.
