Why is it that when someone yells, "Heads up!" everybody ducks their head? I've never understood that. The point of yelling, "Heads up!" is to get people to look up and watch out.
But with digital signage, heads are up and eyes are on the screens. People do this unconciously and consicously. If there's a screen with information in it, people will look to see if it has information that's relevant to them.
And this is why digital signage can be such a huge resource for employee communications. Often communicators first look at the technology to communicate to those employees who don't have access to email, voice mail, the intranet, etc. And this is great.
But what they will find is that even those who do have traditional access to those communication vehicles will also pay attention to the signage. They can't help themselves. And this is where message reinforcement begins to play a huge role.
